Monument to Don Salvador Brau and Asencio

Founded in 1971, for the city's bicentennial. It is located on Barbosa Street, corner Ruiz Belvis, in front of the Catholic Church. Salvador Brau was born in Cabo Rojo in 1842. He stood out as a historian, author, playwright, poet, journalist, essayist and sociologist. Brau was appointed by the provincial council to carry out research at the Archive of India in Seville on historical sources. In 1904 he published “The History of Puerto Rico” and in his last years he received the appointment of Official Chronicler of the country. His work places him among the greatest Latin American mentalities. He died in San Juan on November 5, 1912. His monument is a work of the Spanish sculptor, F. Mares and is one of the tallest monuments in Puerto Rico.
