The ashes of this hero are deposited there, which were transferred from France in 1920. There are the flags of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico and the Grito de Lares. The sculptor of the bust was the Italian Pietro Montano. Ram\u00f3n Emeterio Betances y Alac\u00e1n was born in Cabo Rojo on April 8, 1827 in the place where the Masonic Lodge \u201cCuna de Betances\u201d is located, located on the street that bears his name. He resided in Cabo Rojo as a doctor and abolitionist. He dedicated himself, along with others, to freeing slave children in front of the baptismal font when they cost 25.00 pesos before being baptized. He carried out scientific research that he called \u201cTreatise on Elephantiasis\u201d and it was recognized in different medical schools throughout Europe. Betances fought for the independence of Puerto Rico as well as that of Cuba and Santo Domingo. He was the soul of the Grito de Lares, a historical feat of the Puerto Rican liberators that failed on September 23, 1868.
